Use of multimedia

Websites should use games and other interactive features without overdoing it by using too many features. It is important that pictures, videos and other multimedia are colourful and not boring or bland.

Use of multimedia is instrumental in creating a good science website. This can include quizzes, animations, drawings, films, interviews, sound bites as well as regular images or photographs.

More advanced multimedia can also be used if appropriate, e.g. simulations of experiments, interactive presentations and educational games. This can be a quick and easy way to better understanding of various scientific phenomena.

Some multimedia, like videos, also relies on different sensory skills than reading so they are useful to break up website’s emphasis on reading.
